We hope you have all had a wonderful holiday season! We loved seeing all the newly engaged couples post their happy stories on Facebook and Instagram. One of our HPL Couples even made it official during their family get together for the holidays! Here's their story:

Yes, we are now “official!”

Well, for starters, Hugo pulled off the surprise after all. We had a nice trip planned for NYE in the PNW, and I was 100% certain he was going to propose on our trip. I had even resolved to fix my make-up and hair everyday (ugh) of our vacation just so I could be “ready.” I was COMPLETELY surprised when he instead popped the question while celebrating Christmas with my family.

It was super, super, super freaking sweet!

We are both horrible at keeping secrets, and as such, have never been able to successfully give Christmas gifts to one another. We cannot help it. We get so excited that we give the gift THE MOMENT that we get it. So – he got his Apple Watch and I got my new camera around Thanksgiving. We’re terrible, I know. So when I saw there was a gift under the tree for me, I commented how funny it was that my parents had the same wrapping paper as us. I had no idea the gift was really from him. Haha, he was almost busted right then.

Anyways, when I finally got the gift and saw it was from him, I still figured he just got me something small because he wanted me to at least open SOMETHING from him on Christmas. I unwrapped it, and it was a book. I have an odd love for books and read daily, so I was pretty excited about the gift! The book was written from him to me and listed all the things he loves about me. Obviously, there are plenty so it’s basically a chapter book. After that, he listed out his promises to me. It was sooooooo sweet that I should’ve known at that point. But nope, despite the very serious look on his face, I still didn’t have a clue. At the end was a handwritten page from him that was again very sweet. It asked me to go find my last gift by finding the snowman ornament on the tree, and once I found it, flip the page.

At this point, I knew something was up. I thought maybe I was going to be sent on a scavenger hunt all the way to the PNW so he could propose there, as I was 100% certain he would. But nope! My nephews helped me find the snowman, as I was shaking too much at this point, and it turns out it was not just an ornament but also a ring box! I flipped the page, and both cartoon Hugo & real-life Hugo were down on one knee, asking if I would marry him. My parents, siblings, their spouses, and all of my sweet nephews were there to be part of it – and all of them were in on it!! At that point, this man had made me one of my favorite things ever, a book, and used it to propose with another one of my favorite things, my family, present. Of course I said yes!

Here’s a picture of us in front of the tree with the book and ornament.

We adore Amanda and Hugo and are so excited for their wedding here at Hodge Podge Lodge!
